Bilums bags are a common accessory in Papua New Guinea. More than just a bag, the craft of bilum weaving has been handed down from generation to generation since time immemorial.

Bilums can be made with natural fibres or wool. The weaving technique comprises of a series of mechanical looping and netting with twists and links which produce organized rows and patterns. It is not woven on a loom but held up with one hand and woven with the other.
